It covers the cost of running the event — infrastructure, the time and effort of organising it, and paying the people who do that work. Registration and Rounds 1 and 2 remain free; the fee applies only once your team is selected for Round 3. Paying it means accepting the paid event participation terms, which are linked under this block and are the same for every event.
